Respite

If you are continuing to live independently with the support of a family member or informal carer, Alwyndor's respite care program can give you both a short break and an opportunity to re-charge your batteries.

Respite care offers the chance to take some time out, meet new people and try new activities in a safe and supportive environment.

Alwyndor offers two types of respite care – residential respite and day respite.

Residential respite care

Residential respite care is like taking a short holiday. You’ll have your own hotel-like room in our residential care complex in Hove. You’ll receive around-the-clock care from our dedicated personal carers and clinical support from our nurses and therapists. All your meals will be provided, your laundry will be taken care of, and you’ll be able to participate in the wide range of daily activities that take place at Alwyndor.

Residential respite care is usually offered in two-week blocks which is just the right amount of time for a decent break. Over a year, you can access up to 63 days of respite under current government funding guidelines. For more information visit the My Aged Care website.

Accessing residential respite care

As a high-care respite provider, Alwyndor is unable to take bookings in advance, however we do welcome waiting list applications if you are able to consider a respite care opportunity within 24 hours of notification.

To be placed on our waiting list you must complete an application form and provide a current ACAT approval for high-care respite. For more information about the ACAT approval process you can visit the My Aged Care website or contact Alwyndor’s friendly customer service team on 8177 3200.

Cost of residential respite care

The cost of residential respite is equivalent to the Basic Daily Care Fees (BDCF) set by the federal government. These fees are updated on the 20 March and the 20 September every year. Current rates can be found on the My Aged Care website.

This fee covers your accommodation, meals and care. You will need to pay for your own medication and any incidentals.

Day respite

Alwyndor offers a Day Respite program, designed to give you and your carer a change of scenery and the opportunity to meet new people and try new activities.
Day respite is $182 per day + $15 for lunch ($182 is claimable under Home Care Package funding).

The Day Respite service is available 9.30am - 4pm on Monday to Friday.

Residents are responsible for the cost of their pharmacy needs and items such as newspaper delivery, hairdresser, dry cleaning, wifi, labelling of clothing, etc.

Is Alwyndor accredited?

Yes. All Aged Care organisations must be accredited under the Australia Quality Aged Care Commission standards. This means regular audits of all of our services and unannounced spot visits from time to time to monitor our ongoing compliance. The audits include conversations with clients and their families. You can view Alwyndor’s most recent site audit reports on the Quality Agency website www.aacqa.gov.au/publications/reports

Consumer Experience Reports

A Consumer Experience Report for all residential aged care services was introduced in June 2017. These reports are published following audits of aged care homes and can be found with the audit reports on the Quality Agency website. For more information, go to the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency website.

What is an ACAT Assessment?

We need an assessment of the services you require before we can offer any funded services to you. This assessment is undertaken by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). The assessment will also determine the funding you are eligible for. For more information on how to get an ACAT Assessment, please contact our Customer Care Team on 8177 3200 or call the My Aged Care contact centre on 1800 200 422 or visit www.myagedcare.gov.au

What activities are available for me?

We have a diverse range of lifestyle activities which residents can choose to participate in as well as our gym and therapy classes. Everyone is encouraged to join in social activities. For more information see our Lifestyle Programs at Alwyndor or contact our Customer Care Team on 8177 3200.

What if I have a compliment, complaint or suggestion?
